Royal Caribbean cancels Bali call over safety fears

Royal Caribbean has cancelled a call to Bali due to a perceived terrorist threat.

The Radiance of the Seas sailing departing on Saturday March 12 will no longer call at Bali on Thursday March 17.

In a statement addressed to travel partners posted on the Cruising Power website the cruise line said: “The Australian and the UK governments recently issued new travel advice for Indonesia because of the potential for terrorist attacks in the country.

“We have been closely monitoring the situation and have been in regular communication with the appropriate government agencies.

“The most recent information received indicates that the possibility of an incident in Bali has increased.

“Also, the Balinese New Year was recently celebrated on March 9, and past advisories have named this time as one that could be targeted by terrorists.”

Royal Caribbean said the decision was made “in an abundance of caution” and apologised for the development.

“We know that many of your clients will be disappointed to miss Bali,” said the statement.

“We understand that our guest’s vacation time is very precious and can assure you that we did not take this decision lightly.

“However, we couldn’t in good conscience take our guests to a port where we could not guarantee their safety.”
