New MSC Seashore Floats Out at Fincantieri

The float out of the new MSC Seashore took place today at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.

The MSC Seashore, which will be the company’s longest ship at 339 metres and the largest and most innovative ever built in Italy, has now been moved to a wet dock until her delivery in July 2021 to allow for work on her interior, according to a press release.

She follows the Seaside and Seaview but is the first of two Seaside Evo class ships with newly designed public spaces, more cabins and the highest ratio of outdoor space per guest of any ship in the company’s fleet.

More than 65 per cent of the ship has been enhanced to make MSC Seashore a significant further evolution of her sister ships, the company said.

In summer 2021, all three Seaside class ships will be deployed together in the Western Mediterranean.

The MSC Seashore will offer the popular Six Pearls itinerary calling the Italian cities of Genoa and, for visits to Pompeii, Naples; Messina, Sicily; Valletta, Malta; Barcelona, Spain and Marseille, France. MSC Seaside and MSC Seaview operate ever-popular 7-night cruises in the West Mediterranean homeporting in Genoa.

Fincantieri Marks Milestone Event for Trio of Princess Ships

Fincantieri and Princess Cruises today celebrated three construction milestones of three Royal-class ships, currently in different construction phases, at a ceremony at the Monfalcone shipyard.

The day began with the live broadcast of the steel cutting for the sixth and last Royal-class ship, still unnamed, at the shipyard of Castellammare di Stabia (Naples).

The section, once completed, will be transported by sea to the yard in Monfalcone, where the ship will be completed in 2022.

Later, in Monfalcone, the keel laying of Enchanted Princess, the fifth Royal-class ship, was marked, with a delivery date in 2020.

The event was attended by Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises and Carnival Australia group president, and Luigi Matarazzo, senior executive vice president of the merchant ships business unit of Fincantieri.

In addition, the Sky Princess was floated out, and will join the fleet later this year; the Madrina of this ceremony was Kerry Ann Wright, a second officer with Princess.

In addition, Fincantieri will build two next-generation 4,300-guest ships for Princess Cruises with delivery dates in 2023 and 2025. The ships will be 175,000 tons each.

TUI Cruises Orders New Ships from Fincantieri

TUI Cruises has ordered two new cruise ships from Fincantieri.

The new class of vessel will be powered by LNG and will be built at the Monfalcone shipyard. The ships will be delivered in 2024 and in 2026, respectively.

It marks the third ship order in the last two weeks and pushes the order book to 110 new ships.

Fincantieri said the ships would be around 161,000 tons, making them the largest in TUI’s fleet, which is getting new 110,000-ton ships in 2019 and 2023 as well.

“With the new class of ships, we are responding to the wishes of our guests and creating offerings that will also inspire new cruise passengers. As with the other ships in the fleet, the passenger/space ratio remains generous,” stated Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises. “The decision to run the two additional low-emission new builds is a logical continuation of our environmental strategy.

“With the new class of ship, we are responding to the wishes of our guests and creating offerings that will also inspire new cruise passengers to spend a holiday on board with us. As with the other ships in the fleet, the passenger/space ratio remains generous,” she continued.

TUI Group recently said its cruise brands were benefiting from a “shortage of supply” in a recent investor presentation.
