Royal Caribbean hires firm to market Anthem of the Seas to younger generation

Royal Caribbean has hired marketing firm TVC in an effort to reach a younger audience in the United Kingdom.  Royal Caribbean’s new cruise ship Anthem of the Seas will be based in Southampton and the hiring is in conjunction with the announcement.

The project work will build up to the new ship sailing out from Southampton in April 2015, with couples and families among the key younger groups targeted.

TVC client service director James Myers believes his company can help Royal Caribbean reach a new group of people, “The brief is about reaching a new audience, and reaching people who would not normally consider cruising.”

The six-figure deal will use music to evoke “holidays and good times” to help Royal Caribbean expand its share of the UK cruise market.

“Reaching a new audience is seen as difficult, so we’re trying to help dispel the myth that a cruise holiday may not be the coolest, most credible way to spend a holiday.”

Keel-laying of Anthem of the Seas

Papenburg, 20November 2013 – The official keel-laying of the new cruise ship Anthem of the Seas was celebrated at MEYER WERFT in Papenburg by putting a block in place in the yard’s covered building dock. Jarmo Laakso, Associate Vice President Quantum Class from Royal Caribbean International, put down the lucky penny in the dock before the block of the new ship was lowered by the 800-ts crane.

The first of a total of 74 blocks of the new cruise liner weighs 620 tons. This keel-laying marks the official start of construction of the Anthem of the Seas. For the time being the 167,800-gt Anthem of the Seas is one of the biggest ships the shipyard has built so far.

Delivery of the Anthem of the Seas is scheduled for spring 2015. The sistership of Quantum is under construction in the Building Dock and is scheduled as early as in the autumn of 2014.

Both new ships for Royal Caribbean International will set standards due to their design, a parachuting simulator, bumper cars, virtual balconies and many more innovations.

Each ship can accommodate 4,180 guests at double occupancy and feature 2,090 staterooms

Disney surges on new cruise ship, higher park attendance

Operating income and revenue at Walt Disney Co.’s Parks and Resorts division continued to grow in the company’s fiscal second quarter, due in large part to the Disney Fantasy cruise ship and increased spending at the domestic parks.

Operating income for Parks and Resorts increased 73% to $383 million, and revenue grew 14% to $3.3 billion, Disney reported.

Disney said that higher operating income for domestic operations was primarily due to increased guest spending and attendance at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and the Disneyland Resort in California, as well as the Disney Fantasy cruise ship, which launched in March 2012.

During the second-quarter earnings call on Tuesday, Disney executives continued to tout investments recently made in the domestic parks, most notably the multibillion-dollar overhaul of Disney California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort, as driving returns.

Additionally, the company reported higher guest spending at Disneyland Paris and increased attendance at Hong Kong Disneyland.

For the entire company, net income for the quarter increased 32% to $1.5 billion. Revenue grew 10% to $10.55 billion.
